We have received a nice letter from Stockport charity, The Wellspring, thanking our pupils and their families for their kind donations of food during the school's recent Harvest festival.

Choir in Lights Switch-On

Our school choir will be sharing the same stage as British pop act Steps and 2010 X-factor winner Matt Cardle when they perform in Merseyway shopping centre's 2012 Christmas Lights Switch On...

The event, which this year is being hosted by Stockport radio station ImagineFM, will also see Stella Maris pupils perform alongside two local pop acts who appeared on Britain's Got Talent, Be Minor and ReConnected.

Stella Maris is the only school taking part and although we'd like to keep our performance a bit of a surprise, we can reveal that we'll be singing 4 festive songs.

Our music teacher Mrs Shaw says, "it's a brilliant opportunity for the children, and we have some real Christmas crackers up our sleeves. The pupils have been practising hard and we hope as many people as possible come along to cheer them on and celebrate this special local event."

The show will commence at 2.30pm on Wednesday 14th November, with the Stella Maris School choir performing at 3.20pm.

A Spring In Our Step....

As part of our Harvest Festival, pupils are donating items to homelessness charity The Wellspring in Stockport.

The children have been busy preparing beautiful Harvest boxes containing a selection of tinned food, sugar, biscuits, shaving foam and toothpaste which will be collected by the charity in a special assembly this coming Friday 12th October.

During the assembly, pupils will be visited by a speaker who has benefited from the assistance provided by The Wellspring to tell the them his life story and more about how their donations will help the cause. Parents are also welcome to attend and proceedings will commence from 9am.

The Wellspring is just one of a number of good causes that Stella Maris supports each year. Other good causes include Jeans for Genes Day and the St Joseph's Penny collection which aides Catholic Children in the local diocese.

Jeans for Genes Day

This Friday 5th October we'll be donning our denim for this year's Jeans for Genes Day. Our whole school will be taking part with all pupils and teachers allowed to wear their Jeans in exchange for a £1 donation to Genetic Disorders UK.

Genetic Disorders UK aims to transform the lives of children with genetic disorders. All funds raised will provide vital care and support for thousands of children with genetic disorders that affects 1 in 25 children born in the UK. Their associated health problems mean that genetic disorders are the biggest cause of death of children aged 14 and under.

We will be joining this year's celebrity supporters including Amanda Holden, Michelle Keegan, Coleen Rooney, Lauren Pope, Caggie Dunlop, Jessica Wright, Carol Wright and Jade Thompson by raising lots of money for the cause to help the charity hit their target of £2.5million.

Entry to the event which runs 10am-11.30am in the school hall, is free of charge. We will be selling tea, coffee, and juice as well as a selection of home-made cakes and biscuits.
